Zelestra awarded Sungrow with contracts to bring world-leading photovoltaic (PV) inverter technology to the San Martín solar project. This double win is more than just an impressive tiebreaker though, it makes this partnership the largest solar partnership in Peru history. The San Martín facility is located in the hyper arid coastal desert of Arequipa, at over 2,500m elevation. At a capacity of 273 megawatts (MW) AC, it’s up and running, ready to provide power. Once it is fully built out, the system will produce 830 GWh of clean energy annually. This mass of energy is enough to power more than 440,000 average American homes and avoid the equivalent of 166,549 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The 300 MW battery energy storage project moved from contract signing to commercial operation in only 16 months. This signing is a big leap forward in Peru’s aspirations toward renewable energy and its promise to decarbonisation. Innovative Inverter Solutions
Perhaps the most impressive thing about the 1+X modular inverter is its architectural innovation, with a minimum single unit size of 1.1 MW. This design lends itself to smooth development and expansion and repurposing for changing operational requirements. In addition, the inverter protects maximized operation and maintenance efficiency with maximum generated power guaranteed, even under extreme environmental conditions.
Sungrow’s commitment to delivering proven and dependable technology is shown by their years of experience in the region. In Peru, the company has managed to contract a capacity of more than 1 GWh. This accomplishment speaks volumes about the city’s deep commitment to empowering local renewable energy projects.
“With our deep regional expertise, proven product reliability, and strong service support across Latin America, we’re proud to help Zelestra bring this historic project to life and drive forward Peru’s clean energy transition.” – Sungrow representative
Strategic Partnership for Growth
Zelestra CEO Latam, José Luis García highlighted the key relevance of the partnership with Sungrow. He noted that their relationship is more than just a vendor-client relationship.
“We view Sungrow not just as a supplier, but as a strategic long-term partner. Their technical capabilities and regional track record give us confidence as we scale our renewable energy portfolio across Latin America.” – José Luis García, Zelestra CEO Latam
This regional collaboration is a welcome addition to Zelestra’s growing renewable energy portfolio. It advances equitable, inclusive, sustainable energy innovation that can lead the world in global environmental advancement.
Impact on the Local Community
The San Martín solar project increases the overall national energy production. In the process, it does tremendous good in its local community. By providing clean electricity, the facility plays an essential role in improving energy accessibility for thousands of households in Peru.
Beyond the time and cost savings, the project makes a tangible impact in significantly reducing carbon emissions. It’s about fostering broader environmental initiatives that advance renewable energy throughout Latin America.
