World Labs Unveils Marble, a Game-Changer in Generative World Modeling

World Labs officially launched Marble as its first commercial product. This nifty tool brings a novel generative world model, offering users the ability to design and download their own persistent 3D environments. This launch is big for the company both literally and figuratively. Having emerged from stealth mode more than a year ago, it has already raised a massive $230 million in funding. Marble is set on changing the way users interact with 3D spaces. Its collaborative AI-native editing tools and hybrid 3D editor provide creators with unrivaled capabilities.

Marble platform lets you create interactive 3D scenes just from one image. With compatible headsets like the Vision Pro and Quest 3, users can explore these environments together in virtual reality (VR). This feature really adds to your immersive experience. Beyond that, it opens up thrilling new potential for gaming, visual effects and virtual reality uses.

Justin Johnson, co-founder of World Labs, demonstrated Marble’s incredible capabilities at the Dragons’ Den launch event. And most importantly, he showed us all how to keep users in control as they move about their 3D worlds.

“I can just go in there and grab the 3D block that represents the couch and move it somewhere else,” – Justin Johnson.

Marble’s innovative approach allows for spatial flexibility. Once they create a world, they can grow it outward in real time. As Johnson explained,

“When you move to a piece of the world that’s starting to break apart, you can basically tell the model to expand there or generate more world in the vicinity of where you currently are, and then it can add more detail in that region.”

The platform offers various subscription tiers: Free, Standard, Pro, and Max. The Pro tier, $35 per month, allows users to create 25 separate worlds. This tiered pricing structure is designed to be accessible to anyone from casual hobbyists all the way up to professionals who need advanced features.

Fei-Fei Li, CEO of World Labs, advocating for spatial intelligence as a core element of intelligent machines. She believes that systems like Marble can help teach machines to perceive and construct environments in ways similar to how large language models educate machines in reading and writing.

“Our dreams of truly intelligent machines will not be complete without spatial intelligence,” – Fei-Fei Li.

Li too hopes that Marble is a foundational step towards equipping machines with a higher level of spatial intelligence. She stated,

“The next generation of world models will enable machines to achieve spatial intelligence on an entirely new level.”

Marble is not meant to supplant any pipelines that currently exist for gaming or other creative industries but to supplement and expand them. Johnson clarified its role by saying,

“It’s not designed to replace the entire existing pipeline for gaming, but to just give you assets that you can drop into that pipeline.”

This new creator-friendly model provides the flexibility to give creators control of their work while benefiting from Marble’s powerful technology that lets creators produce high-quality assets quickly. Johnson articulated the balance that Marble seeks to achieve:

“There should always be a quick pathway to generate something, but you should be able to dive even deeper and get a lot of control over the things that you’re generating. You don’t want the machine to just take the wheel and pull all that creativity away from you.”

World Labs is expanding the frontiers of generative modeling with Marble. This innovation is going to have a huge impact on all kinds of industries. Designed with the power of spatial intelligence at its core, the platform builds on new frontiers in artificial intelligence. This method introduces amazing new possibilities for artistic communication and engagement.
