JA Solar, one of the largest leaders in the photovoltaic (PV) sector, has secured yet another milestone contract — this time with Larsen & Toubro (L&T). They will provide 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of solar modules for the Samarkand 1 and 2 solar power plants, located in central Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region. This change, if successful, would be a significant advance for the country’s bold national action plan. By 2030, they want 25% of their electricity to come from renewable energy. ACWA Power’s ongoing project development pipeline is robust, with numerous projects currently active. Together, these initiatives will provide clean energy to well over a million homes, while significantly slashing carbon dioxide emissions.
From its beginnings in 2005, JA Solar has evolved into one of the most vertically integrated manufacturers. Currently, they manufacture wafers, cells, modules and energy storage products. The company is home to 16 global subsidiaries and is customer active in 180 countries. As of Q3 2025, it has failed to ship even 317 GW of solar cells and modules. This large-scaled operational reach further cements JA Solar’s position as a leading influencer in the worldwide push toward renewable energy.
Commitment to Renewable Energy
Beyond the dollar value of the investment, the Samarkand projects are strategically important for Uzbekistan’s emerging energy landscape. Once in service, each of these systems will reduce annual carbon emissions by more than one million tonnes. This action directly furthers our nation’s environmental policy goals. With plans to deploy high-performance solar technologies that will triple its current solar capacity, Uzbekistan is making significant progress towards its renewable energy goals.

From these, JA Solar will be supplying its DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules for the projects. These modules focus on creating energy-efficient, reliable systems. This new approach is already allowing the optimization of energy yield in environmental conditions ranging from deserts to urban centers. With the execution of this landmark deal, JA Solar rejoices another important milestone through its partnership with L&T. This partnership cements its increasing power to shape the international renewable energy market.
Advanced Technology and Market Reach
JA Solar’s reputation is one of quality and innovation. The company’s modules are purposely engineered to maximize efficiency and reliability, providing superior performance in any environmental condition. This agreement is a clear testimony of the confidence industry partners have in JA Solar’s technology and execution capabilities.
“Our high-efficiency, high-reliability modules are engineered to maximise energy yield in diverse environments. This agreement underscores the confidence our partners place in JA Solar’s technology and execution capabilities.” – JA Solar executive president Aiqing Yang
JA Solar further broadens its portfolio through a formidable joint venture with ACWA Power and L&T. This partnership increases its footprint in more positive emerging markets. International appetite for renewable energy alternatives is at an all-time high. JA Solar’s integrated approach, while not unique, does provide it with competitive advantages in the industry.
Future Perspectives
Uzbekistan is undertaking ambitious and innovative steps toward establishing mainstream renewable energy programs. The projects in Samarkand are indicative of the country’s strong commitment to sustainability. The collaboration between JA Solar, L&T and ACWA Power is a testament to their shared commitment to a clean energy future.
These solar projects will move Uzbekistan closer to being energy independent. To start, they’ll shame other countries to lead the world in moving to renewables. JA Solar is dedicated to realizing transformative projects all over the globe. This dedication further cements its commitment to being one of the PV industry’s leaders.
