In addition, SUNOTEC has entered an unprecedented cross-border partnership with Shell Energy Europe. We hope this partnership will contribute to improving financial mechanisms for deploying and operating BESS solutions across Central Eastern Europe. This partnership represents an exciting opportunity to advance energy resilience and sustainability in the region. The contract will provide 20 years of fixed pricing certainty for the BESS project. It is expected to begin carrying passengers in commercial service by Q2 2026.
Kaloyan Velichkov, the founder and CEO of SUNOTEC, couldn’t be more excited about the partnership. Building strong partnerships like this one with Shell are essential to our goal of a sustainable, vibrant, and forward-looking energy future, he added.
“Agreements like the one with Shell highlight SUNOTEC’s commitment to working with leading energy players who share our vision for a sustainable and forward-looking energy future.” – Kaloyan Velichkov, SUNOTEC founder and CEO
Strategic Collaboration for Sustainable Energy
This agreement between SUNOTEC and Shell Energy Europe is indeed a milestone. Indeed, it is one of the first such transactions in Central Eastern Europe. Both companies are deeply passionate about accelerating the energy transition. Their priorities lie in cooperative regional planning and investment in such areas as technology, infrastructure, and financial innovation. By combining their individual strengths, SUNOTEC and Shell will contribute to a more dynamic, smarter energy system.
The partnership fits SUNOTEC’s larger strategy of incorporating innovative energy management solutions into SUNOTEC’s solar infrastructure portfolio. With a commitment to sustainability, SUNOTEC is actively engaging with key industry players to ensure that their vision for renewable energy materializes effectively.
Deployment of Cutting-Edge Technology
SUNOTEC is currently increasing its coverage area by teaming up with Sungrow to promote its system. Collectively they have agreed to deploy 2.4 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across numerous solar power projects in Europe. This endeavor deepens SUNOTEC’s strides to lead the way towards a future of increased energy flexibility and independence with state-of-the-art technological solutions.
Not only will these systems better implement renewable energy into our systems, making the grid cleaner overall. They will allow more efficient storage and distribution of energy generated from solar sources. This flagship initiative will bring a major piece of Europe’s energy transformation into focus as the region seeks a clean, prosperous energy future.
“This pioneering agreement demonstrates the power of collaboration in advancing flexibility and renewable energy-driven independence. By uniting technical expertise with financial ingenuity, we are helping to build a more resilient and integrated energy system.” – Kaloyan Velichkov, SUNOTEC founder and CEO
Future Prospects
To deliver on these commitments, SUNOTEC is joining Shell Energy Europe’s Renewable Energy Accelerator (REA). Combined, they are poised to help lead a drastic shift in Central Eastern Europe’s energy sector. Their partnership is a promising sign of the future for battery energy storage systems. New and innovative financial mechanisms will be key to scaling up the sustainable energy infrastructure we need.
