GM Unveils Plans for Google Gemini AI Assistant in Future Vehicles

General Motors (GM) has huge ambitions for its Google Gemini-powered AI assistant to feature in its vehicles. They want to have this tech deployed nationwide by 2026. This project is the next phase of an ongoing effort to improve the driver experience by using cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies. The announcement came at GM’s GM Forward event which led the company to highlight a variety of tech-centric innovations.

The launch of the new Google Gemini AI assistant comes just months after Google’s introduction of its Dialogflow chatbot in 2023. This chatbot was created to manage the non-emergency capabilities of the OnStar system. It really works to support drivers on key questions they typically have about routing and navigation. These features are only set to get much richer with Google’s forthcoming Gemini assistant, so stay tuned.

According to GM, the Google Gemini will not only assist with standard navigation but will offer features that allow users to multitask effectively while driving. The company stated,

“or even prep for a meeting on the go” – General Motors

This statement highlights GM’s dedication to bringing advanced technology that focuses on user experience and safety first.

With the upcoming rollout of Google Gemini, GM is poised to make a significant leap forward for the company and its customers. This will be one of the first instances where this powerful AI technology is made widely available in consumer-owned automobiles. The Detroit automaker’s integration aims to change the way drivers connect with their vehicles. This would turn mundane commutes and trips across town into a more enjoyable and productive activity.

Aside from all these advancements, TechCrunch is bringing its future.RT event to San Francisco on October 27-29, 2025. This convening will bring together leaders and innovators from across the field. Together, these three will paint a picture of technology’s future—and what it means for industries such as automotive, AI and more.
