Fluence Energy Teams Up with Torch Clean Energy for Arizona BESS Project

Fluence Energy has also partnered with Torch Clean Energy. Together, they will collaboratively deploy the Winchester Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Arizona. The pathway to success Together, this collaboration will bring 2.2 GWh of BESS infrastructure across the continental United States. Deployment is scheduled to start in 2025. The Winchester project will help modernize an increasingly stressed electric grid in Arizona. Most importantly, it will give a huge leg up to locally-based energy resources.

Noting that this competition could be a game-changer, John Zahurancik, president of Fluence Americas said, He stated, “We’re proud to partner with Torch Clean Energy on the Winchester project and to bring this important power resource to the Arizona electric grid.” The project is strategically located right next door to two 80 MW solar arrays. This central location gives the state unique power to spread and release renewable energy to more places.

Project Details and Infrastructure

Fluence will deploy its Gridstack Pro 5000 energy storage solution for the Winchester project. This new, cutting-edge system is intended to integrate enclosures, inverters and thermal management systems, all domestically produced. The Gridstack Pro 5000 contains two standalone, identical dual-sport systems. Collectively, they provide a remarkable 160 MW/640 MWh of energy storage capacity.

As for the delivery of the Gridstack Pro 5000 full stack solution, that’s expected in early 2027. This timeline is indicative of Fluence’s deep commitment. Through projects like these, they plan to deploy or contract over 22 GWh of BESS capacity over more than 90 projects nationwide. Fluence is deeply committed to supporting utilities and developers with best-in-class, innovative storage solutions. This strategic initiative improves the reliability and efficiency of energy delivery.

Economic Impact on Cochise County

The Winchester project provides a proactive improvement to energy capacity. Not only does it realize safe routes for Cochise County residents, it spurs ongoing positive economic development in Cochise County. It’s supposed to spur local investment in the surrounding infrastructure, creating thousands of regional jobs and stimulating economic growth. Alongside a national trend to make greater use of renewable energy resources, this initiative embodies a movement toward more localized and intentional economic opportunity creation.

Travis Haggard, president of Torch Clean Energy was excited about the partnership. He remarked, “Torch is excited to partner with Fluence to manufacture the energy storage system for our Winchester project. The Gridstack Pro 5000 will allow us to shift cost-effective solar generation to be dispatched when the grid needs it most.” This collaboration is a testament to the deep commitment both companies share toward accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
