Deloitte Embraces AI Despite Challenges with Anthropic’s Claude

Deloitte continues making big strides in its commitment to artificial intelligence (AI). This follows a recent controversy over its use of Anthropic’s chatbot, Claude. Claude was credited for significantly enhancing the global consulting firm’s impact and efficiency. They ran into trouble as a result of AI-generated errors, notably hallucinations that marred one such report for the Australia Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

With Deloitte’s tremendous AI transformation opening AI’s floodgates Claude has quickly become a favored selected by clients. And yet, the chatbot’s proclivity for generating AI-hallucinated information has made this interest problematic. Perhaps the biggest snafu came when Claude generated a sham legal citation. It’s this error that caused one lawyer from Anthropic to come forward and release an apology.

Just Deloitte’s “independent assurance review,” which was commissioned by the Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, early this year. As they did their review, they found a number of examples of AI hallucinations. Once the department realized these errors, they sought a return of taxpayers’ money for the A$439,000 report. In fact, it wasn’t until last week that Deloitte even acknowledged the mistakes and re-uploaded the document onto the department’s website.

At this year’s TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco, held from October 27-29, 2025, Deloitte quietly dropped a bombshell. In doing so, they underscored their increasing reliance on AI technologies. Ranjit Bawa is Deloitte’s global leader for technology, ecosystems and alliances. He pointed out the firm’s strategic bet on Anthropic’s AI platform.

Even with these benefits, the deployment of AI technologies such as Claude has had its own share of downfalls. The Chicago Sun-Times, unfortunately, has come under fire of late for running an AI-produced list of children’s books that featured a number of made-up titles. These incidents cast doubt on the dependability of AI systems to generate reliable and high-quality information.

Deloitte’s experience provides a great example of the difficulty that can come with the lightning-fast pace of AI adoption into everyday business conduct. The firm plans to make Claude the engine of its transformation. It also needs to address the damage that will result from the misinformation produced by AI. Her story should remind us all that organizations need to tread carefully and deliberately in their AI implementation.
