Google has introduced a new line of smart home security products, including the Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd gen) and two types of Nest Cameras: the Nest Cam Indoor and the Outdoor Cam (Wired, 2nd gen). These devices, introduced at a recent tech event, are designed to help keep your home more secure with new capabilities and better performance. The new products will be available in six colors, from rosy blush to elegant black, appealing to different tastes and providing for stylish solutions.
The Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd gen) is priced at $179.99 and comes in three color options: Snow, Hazel, and Linen. The design has been focused on providing the widest possible horizontal field of view. Along with a 152-degree diagonal view, users can keep better tabs on their doorstep. The Nest Cam Indoor is really pretty cheap—just $99.99. It comes in three shades—Snow, Hazel, and Berry. The Outdoor Cam (Wired, 2nd gen) is newly available in other colors for $149.99, including Snow and Hazel. It offers an IP56 rating, meaning exceptional weather resistance.
Enhanced Viewing Capabilities
The new generations of Nest cameras guarantee big enhancements in luminosity, resolution and FOV (field of view). Unlike SuperTelevision, those other displays now support 2K HDR resolution, with images more vivid than ever before. The increased horizontal/vertical field of view makes sure that users don’t miss any of their surroundings.
Incorporating infrared vision allows the cameras to deliver detailed nighttime footage as well, boosting security even in the absence of natural light. Users should look forward to a whole new level of awesomeness being brought to their surveillance experience with the combination of these features.
“That’s what Gemini is going to transform. This experience is all underpinned by what we call ‘semantic scene understanding,’” – Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer at Google Home and Nest
The hot new tech for generative AI uses Gemini’s abilities to read between the lines for smarter event handling. This change pushes notifications to be much more intelligent in a way that’s deeper than just an alert.
Improved Event History and Subscription Options
Even better, the free tier of the Nest cameras now offers six hours of event history. That’s twice the previous limit of three hours! Users will be treated to a 10-second video clip with each notification for every event that occurs within this six-hour window. This new capability allows them to more strategically examine incidents.
For users needing longer event history, Google has paid subscription plans with more features available. Users can select plans that make their event history available for 10 days or even 60 days. This provides them ample leverage to continue tracking movement or activity in their households.
“So now we go from ‘person detected’ or ‘package delivered’ to Gemini interpreting that a FedEx delivery driver is placing a package on the porch and walking away,” – Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer at Google Home and Nest
This new addition is a great sign that Google continues to prioritize user experience, making the process of monitoring security less daunting and more informative.
Global Availability and User Experience
The new Nest cameras and doorbell are scheduled to roll out globally in several waves. With much less fanfare, they are available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, the U.K., and most of Continental Europe, including France, Germany, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands. Because of this widespread availability, there’s a great opportunity to provide many users with access to the advanced features made available through Google’s newest products.
Smart home technology is changing quickly. Google has shown strong intent to steer the industry in this direction by rolling out advanced features to its devices first. With semantic scene understanding coming to Gemini, these cameras and doorbell become even more powerful and context-aware.
