Cohere Partners with AMD and Achieves $7 Billion Valuation

Cohere, one of the global leaders in generative AI, recently announced an intriguing partnership with AMD. This partnership strengthens its technological might by combining its complete range of Command-family AI models with AMD’s Instinct GPU. Their CEO and cofounder Cohere, Aidan Gomez happens to be one of the leading authors of 2017’s revolutionary “Transformer” paper. Since then, it has gained near rockstar status within the enterprise-focused frontier of the flourishing tech world.

The partnership with AMD, one of Cohere’s investors, comes on the heels of the company raising an additional $100 million in funding. Cohere’s valuation has skyrocketed to $7 billion with the most recent infusion of capital. This comes on the heels of an oversubscribed $500 million round in August, which first valued the company at $6.8 billion. This accelerated valuation reflects Cohere’s relentless focus on solving the immediate AI sovereignty imperative for enterprises.

Cohere has always had its sights set on the enterprise market. It has set itself up to be a key destination for companies seeking the best, most innovative AI offerings. The company’s Command vision, translate, and reasoning models are designed to operate seamlessly on AMD’s Instinct GPU, facilitating enhanced performance for enterprise applications. In other words, Cohere has signalled strongly that it will continue to support Nvidia GPUs. This step, together with its collaboration with AMD, makes sure flexibility and accessibility for a wider variety of users.

Even with these successes, Cohere has struggled against a cutthroat market largely controlled by giants OpenAI and Anthropic. Just last week OpenAI celebrated an incredible valuation of $500 billion, and Anthropic it a cool $183 billion at the start of this month. Nvidia is reportedly preparing to make moves in OpenAI, investing at least $100 billion. In reply, Cohere seeks to establish its own stronghold by promising to bring more bespoke solutions, more closely aligned with the specific needs of enterprise customers.

With the upcoming integration with AMD, Cohere will elevate its offerings even further. Together, we can enable companies—large and small—to tap into the efficiencies and data sovereignty that AI technologies can unlock. As enterprises enter a world where control over their AI infrastructures is of the utmost importance, Cohere’s solutions deliver confidence for what lies ahead.
