Google Cloud COO Shares Strategy Insights on StrictlyVC Download

Karyne Levy, deputy managing editor over at TechCrunch, is helping change that narrative. Just last week, she moderated a fascinating edition of the podcast StrictlyVC Download. Connie Loizos, the new Editor in Chief of TechCrunch, grilled Francis deSouza, Chief Operating Officer of Google Cloud. It was the second Tuesday in November. It was a presentation that revealed Google Cloud’s continuing plan to catch up and win customers in the hot, competitive cloud computing market.

Francis deSouza took over as COO back in January. As an entrepreneur and as an operator, he comes with the rare wealth of experience. In his interview with Loizos, he described Google Cloud’s focus on startups as a core part of its strategy. With AWS and Microsoft Azure way out in front, Google Cloud wants to win on the up-and-comers. This strategy is on the heels of AWS and Oracle’s deepening partnerships with AI heavyweights such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

In that episode of StrictlyVC Download, deSouza emphasized the necessity of meeting startups where they are. With this understanding, Google Cloud is committed to provide customized solutions to accelerate innovation. With this strategic approach, Google Cloud has become the trusted partner for developing enterprises. It does more than that; it cultivates deeper connections with the community that are the key to long-term development and success.

Karyne Levy was formerly the deputy managing editor at Protocol. As Deputy Managing Editor, she artfully juggled the editorial demands of an award-winning newsroom of more than 40 people. Her deep experience as an editorial director serves her well in guiding a team to produce infoladen content that connects with current industry trends. Levy now lives just outside of San Francisco and remains deeply embedded in the tech community. You can email her with questions at karyne.levy@techcrunch.com.

As the discussion continued on StrictlyVC Download, deSouza let loose a few nuggets about his general ambitions for Google Cloud. He said he’s sure the company will change quickly enough to stay ahead in the rapidly-evolving technology environment, but continue to focus on customers’ needs. This commitment to fostering world-class startups is a key piece of that vision.
