Amazon Unveils Lens Live, an Innovative AI Shopping Feature

Amazon has released its new feature Amazon Lens Live to improve the shopping experience with real-time interactions. This new digital platform and augmented reality tool familiarizes your customers with products they encounter in their everyday lives. This innovation provides an integrated approach to the physical and digital shopping experience.

Amazon Lens Live allows users to literally tap on anything they see with their smartphone camera. This initial action activates the feature, so it pinpoints that particular product moving forward. This functionality is powered by Amazon SageMaker services, which makes it easy to deploy machine learning models into production at scale. By combining these cutting-edge features and technologies, Amazon wants to transform the way customers find and engage with products.

This new addition adds a real-time component to the current Amazon Lens feature. Smart customers will be able to just aim their phones at things they’re seeing in their environment to discover corresponding products they can purchase. Once activated, matching products will appear in a swipeable carousel at the bottom of the screen, making it easy for users to browse options directly related to their interests.

Currently, Amazon Lens Live is only accessible through the Amazon Shopping app on iOS devices. The huge initial launch is expected to make the new service visible to “tens of millions” of shoppers in the US. Amazon has not explained whether this feature will grow to other markets internationally in the future. More importantly, Amazon Lens Live will not replace the company’s current visual search tool, Amazon Lens. Just like the original prototype, the new tool lets you snap photos, upload images, or barcode scan to find greener products.

This specific rollout is just one piece of Amazon’s larger push to improve the shopping experience with AI-generated tools. Further innovations from the company are its AI assistant Rufus, AI shopping guides, and AI-enhanced product reviews. These tools are another example of Amazon’s commitment to harnessing artificial intelligence for its marketplace. In doing so, they forge a far more targeted, relevant and streamlined shopping experience for shoppers.
