Anthropic Introduces Data Sharing Choices for Claude Users Amid Industry Scrutiny

Anthropic, an AI research and governance non-profit, made additional headlines recently with its new user data policy. Effective immediately, all users of the AI platform must pick between the two by September 28. They should be able to choose whether they agree to have their speech data used to train AI models. This is a notable policy shift from Anthropic’s prior stance of not using consumer chat data to train models.

The new policy has serious implications for every level of Claude users. This extends to users on Claude Free, Claude Pro, Claude Max—and users on Claude Code. These changes will not impact business customers using Claude Gov, Claude for Work, or Claude for Education. The same applies to everyone consuming that API. Anthropic is addressing the increasing need for large-scale, high-quality, human-written conversational data. This initiative is a step towards increasing the transparency of its AI models’ training.

For instance, Anthropic is leveraging millions of user chats and experiences.
