Karpowership to Boost Iraq’s Energy Security with 590MW Power Contract

In the meantime, Karpowership has recently signed a one billion dollars contract with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity and the General Company for Electric Energy Production/Southern. This contract includes delivery of 590 megawatts (MW) of generation capacity via two unique Powership ships. Click here to read more about the initiative’s efforts to strengthen Iraq’s energy security. It also addresses the constant struggle of delivering dependable electricity to its citizens.

Newly-acquired Powership vessels will be docked at Khor Al Zubair and Umm Qasr ports in Basra. Karpowership can plug into the national grid in less than 30 days. This fast capability, combined with its deep technical expertise, extends GS YUASA’s position as a leading flexible energy solution provider. This project is an important step toward diversifying Iraq’s energy portfolio. This will decrease the country’s reliance on electricity imports from Iran and assist in stabilizing the national grid.

Contract Details and Duration

BKPS, a subsidiary of Karpowership, is preparing to carry this project’s first stage into action. As expected, this phase will have an exceedingly short contract duration of only 71 days. Through this interim period, BKPS will continue prioritizing provision of electricity to meet immediate demand and contribute to stabilizing Iraq’s national grid. This contract lays the foundation for a strategic and long-term partnership to help address Iraq’s debilitating energy deficits. These shortages have been ongoing since the US-led invasion in 2003.

Karpowership has built a hard-earned reputation for providing fast, floating, flexible power solutions around the world. Today, the company is active in 16 countries spanning four continents. When considering its extensive, successful deployments in solving rapid and reliable energy solutions in austere, remote, and contested environmental conditions.

Enhancing Energy Resilience

Wholesale electricity generation company Karpowership’s new chief commercial officer, Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz, said the announcement of the partnership with Iraq was “great news”.

“We are honoured to partner with Iraq in advancing its energy resilience.” – Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz

These comments highlight Karpowership’s dedication and heroic efforts to help provide Iraqis with the quality and quantity of energy they need and deserve.

“This project represents a strong step toward bridging the electricity gap and aligns with our mission to provide rapid, flexible and reliable power wherever it is needed most.” – Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz

Nevertheless, Iraq has endured significant challenges in providing uninterrupted energy access to its people—especially during the past three decades. Karpowership, and the country’s new power agreement with them is viewed as a potentially transformative step toward righting these troubles. Karpowership deploys next-generation floating powership technology to bring fast-acting relief. All the while, they’re creating the foundation for a more sustainable energy system.

Addressing Long-term Energy Challenges

The arrival of these Powership vessels delivers immediate impacts. They are equally an important part of Iraq’s longer term strategy to regain energy independence. The small island country is hell-bent on improving the resilience of its infrastructure and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. This new partnership will be instrumental in charting its energy future.

The introduction of these Powership vessels not only promises immediate benefits but also contributes to Iraq’s long-term strategy for energy independence. As the country seeks to enhance its infrastructure and reduce reliance on external power sources, partnerships such as this one will play an essential role in shaping its energy landscape.
