Anthropic Surges Ahead in Enterprise AI Market, Overtaking OpenAI

Anthropic has emerged as the leading choice for enterprises in the increasingly competitive artificial intelligence race. It has even surpassed OpenAI in market share on large language models. By early 2025, Anthropic has captured 32% of the enterprise market. This is a huge increase from just 12% two years ago. Its initial addition of the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model in June 2024 kicked off a new meteoric rise. This momentum carried right along with the introduction of Claude 3.7 Sonnet in February of 2025.

To this end, the release of Claude 3.5 Sonnet has been significant in setting up Anthropic for much wider adoption by enterprises. After this, Claude 3.7 Sonnet’s launch rapidly gained market share, cementing its place in the field. Menlo Ventures has put out a great report recently that digs into these trends. Their data showed a pretty remarkable spike in user interest for Anthropic starting in 2023.

OpenAI has suffered a catastrophic collapse in its share of the market. We saw that drop from 50% to a mere 25% in that three-month period. This crash is a symptom of a larger movement within enterprises towards favoring closed models, the model which Anthropic uses. The report shows that, as of mid-2025, only 13% of enterprise daily workloads depend on open source models. Moreover, more than 60 percent of these businesses have decided against implementing these models completely.

Anthropic’s hegemony is especially strong in the coding space, where it holds a jaw-dropping 42% market share. This figure is significantly higher than that of its competitors, further underscoring its appeal to businesses requiring reliable AI solutions.

This preference for closed models is much more visible among enterprises seeking secure, enterprise-grade applications of AI technology. With this shift, Anthropic has effectively positioned itself as a trusted provider for businesses aiming to integrate AI into their operations seamlessly.

Anthropic has not released specific details on how users are interacting with it. Yet comparisons reveal that ChatGPT users are submitting more than 2.5 billion prompts per day! The market is downright vicious. Engagement and Gamification Just like Anthropic, OpenAI benefits from high engagement through their user base.
