Snapchat Introduces Home Safe Feature to Enhance User Safety

Then Snapchat released a positive new feature that’s much ado about “Home Safe.” We hope that this tool will empower users to quickly inform friends and family members when they return home safely from a night out. The decision, announced Thursday July 24, 2025, marked the Seattle-based transportation company’s continuing focus on user safety and connections.

The app’s “Home Safe” feature lets users send alerts only to friends they already share their location with. This provides an extra layer of security, making sure that no one but a user’s trusted contacts are informed when they arrive safely. Snapchat is leveraging its Snap Map feature to engage users’ sense of community. To that end, it seeks to develop support communities between its users.

Snap Map debuting in 2017. This feature lets users see where their friends are and search through public snaps from all over the globe. To best utilize Snap Map, first tap on your Bitmoji on the map. Next, press “My Home” to choose where you live. By May 2025, Snap Map has more than 400 million monthly active users. This augmented engagement has made it a (perhaps the) most central piece of Snapchat’s social networking lifestyle.

It comes at a very important time, as for many users, safety is the top concern when heading out. As Snapchat stated,

“Whether you’re heading back from a first date, a crowded concert, or a weekend getaway, Home Safe can offer a close friend or family member peace of mind that you’ve made it home safely.”

TechCrunch consumer news reporter Aisha Malik recognized the significance of this new feature in her write-up. Prior to joining TechCrunch in 2021, Malik worked as a telecom reporter at MobileSyrup. She holds an honours bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto. She is a licensed architect, with a master’s degree in journalism from Western University.

The home of Snapchat’s corporate headquarters, and its first company council. The business is looking ahead to Capitol Connect, a new hybrid event planned for October 27-29, 2025. The introduction of the “Home Safe” feature demonstrates Snapchat’s ongoing efforts to innovate and enhance user experience while prioritizing safety.
