VSB Group Secures Major Contract for Solar Project in Poland

VSB Group, the German renewable energy developer, has recently won a historic high contract for difference (CfD). It will help them implement their ambitious 303 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar farm in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. The project, stretching more than 260 hectares northeast of Wrocław, is expected to greatly improve the region’s energy production capacity. Once operational, the solar park will deliver enough clean power every year to meet the needs of about 117,000 households.

Final construction on this ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) plant is scheduled to begin in October of 2025. The project will look to include cutting-edge technologies. We want to see it connected to the grid by the 2nd quarter of 2027. This initiative is an important step towards the further expansion of renewable energy sources in Poland.

Project Significance and Scale

Once completed, the solar park is expected to become one of the biggest PV facilities in Poland. This accomplishment is a historic victory in the country’s transition to clean, renewable energy. According to VSB Group, this project is hugely important for the security of energy in Poland. Beyond this, it is making a crucial contribution to improving energy security throughout Europe.

Additionally, the project will operate with the long-term price stability guaranteed by a 15-year CfD. This financial mechanism is specifically aimed at safeguarding against market volatility and stimulating investment in promising renewable energy technologies.

“We are proud to actively contribute to the energy transition with this flagship photovoltaic project – one of the largest in Poland. It embodies the scale and ambition needed to drive meaningful change, while enhancing energy security in Poland and across Europe. This solar park marks a significant milestone on that journey.”

Aside from its direct, short-term impact, the solar park brims with potential for long-term growth. In time, it has the potential with Europe’s largest hybrid energy project. Plans are underway to integrate battery storage and wind power alongside the photovoltaic system, creating a multifaceted energy solution that addresses varying demands.

Future Developments and Innovations

VSB Group’s innovation commitment led Hubert Kowalski’s comments to ring true, when he stated,

In September 2024, TAURON Polska Energia’s subsidiary, TAURON Zielona Energia, signed a deal to buy project rights for the solar park. This collaboration is a testament to the parties’ mutual commitment to further developing renewable energy projects in Poland.

“With this project, we are setting a new benchmark for solar energy in Poland. In just a few years, it could evolve into one of Europe’s largest hybrid energy projects, combining photovoltaics, battery storage and wind power.”

Collaboration and Future Goals

Today, the project is deep in its development phase, with stakeholders from all sides doing their best to set the project up for a successful implementation. The expected completion date of early 2027 would be a tremendous step forward toward meeting national and global energy targets.

Currently, the project is in its development phase, with stakeholders focused on ensuring its successful implementation. The anticipated completion by early 2027 represents a significant leap toward achieving national and international energy goals.
