Jack Dorsey, co-founder and CEO of Twitter Inc. and Square Inc., might be two weeks into the most ambitious app-building spree in recent memory. His most recent app, Zecy, is designed to track your sun exposure. The updated app is currently available on iOS via TestFlight. The app allows users to easily track their ultraviolet (UV) exposure and provides a better understanding of the vitamin D production they’re receiving while enjoying outdoor activities.
Dorsey announced his new endeavor at the inaugural Bitcoin 2021 conference in Miami, Florida on Friday, June 4, 2021. This announcement has sparked a lot of excitement — especially by health-conscious people who want to reduce their sun exposure for better health and well-being. In developing the app, we deployed an open-source coding tool called Goose. This tool significantly reduces the initial development process and invites the community to participate in its evolution.
The app provides users with features that go beyond simple food and exercise logging. It passively tracks the vitamin D you gain with each sun exposure and reports daily sun exposure totals. This is a particularly timely feature, given the public’s increased interest in vitamin D effects on health. That interest has exploded particularly during the pandemic.
Dorsey’s interest in open-source technology isn’t new. That’s why we’ve made the new app’s source code available on GitHub so developers and tech lovers can clone, customize and repurpose it however they like. This culture of transparency is indicative of an emerging trend in the tech industry — collaborative development and inclusive design processes that prioritize user engagement.
Chris has since taken that experience to the Huffington Post and The Next Web. His expertise in both technology and media positions him well to create applications that resonate with users seeking innovative solutions to everyday challenges.
Currently based in India, Dorsey’s latest venture signifies not only his ongoing innovation in technology but his dedication to leveraging digital tools for personal health management. He’s still hard at work building his suite of apps. The creator community is looking forward to seeing whatever he cooks up next.
