Apple COO Jeff Williams Announces Retirement, Transitioning Leadership to Sabih Khan

Jeff Williams, Apple Inc.’s chief operating officer, has decided to not only resign from his position, but from his position later this month. Williams has not only been a practical leader in the company’s operations but spent decades building their corporate identity. Now, he is retiring to spend more time with loved ones, including five grandchildren and growing.

Williams serves as an essential counterbalance on Apple’s executive team. Of all the stunning innovations flowing from his purview—from design team to Apple Watch—one looms largest. Prior to his retirement, he will continue to report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook. He needs to see these vital projects through to their completion. His leadership has been instrumental in establishing the vision for some of Apple’s most influential and recognizable products.

In advance of this shift, Apple’s design team will see some significant structural reshuffling. Following Williams’ departure, the design team will report directly to Tim Cook, ensuring a seamless continuation of Apple’s innovative vision.

The company has some equally thrilling news! Sabih Khan, currently senior vice president, operations, will move to the COO role upon Williams’ retirement. Khan’s extensive experience within Apple positions him as a fitting successor to lead the company’s operations into the future.

Williams shared his appreciation for his time at Apple. He can’t wait to jump into this new season of his life.

“I want to spend more time with friends and family, including five grandchildren and counting.” – Jeff Williams

Even as the transition continues, Apple is focused on what lies ahead, doubling down on their traditional values of innovation and excellence. Khan will be moving into the COO role. The company plans to focus on continuing this momentum and providing quality products and services to their customers.
