Bluesky Introduces Enhanced Notification Features for a Customized User Experience

Then, on July 2, 2025, Bluesky released three major updates to improve notifications as a centerpiece of user interaction. This announcement stems from the company’s October 9 blog post More Notification Control. It seeks to benefit the end user by allowing them to control their notification experience and clean up their notification centers in the process.

Changes have been made to reduce superfluous notifications. They are giving users the power to tailor notifications to their needs and preferences. Through these additions, Bluesky aims to foster a less overwhelming and more intuitive platform for its users.

Perhaps the biggest improvement makes over the former “priority notifications” option. This step is intended to provide users with more clarity and control over what notifications they choose to receive. At least Bluesky has added an “Everything Else” category. This new feature collects everything else—those general notifications that fall outside distinct areas of interest. For particular cases, you’ll get more detailed alerts. For instance, you’ll receive notifications from when a new user joins with a Starter Pack or when verification notifications are sent.

Additionally, users can now choose to turn activity notifications off completely. This change means that individuals may not be able to activate activity notifications for every account they wish to follow. This can limit a user’s ability to follow all of their favorite accounts. It does allow you to create a much more tailored notification experience.

These improvements are a positive sign of Bluesky’s user-first approach to helping people avoid unwanted alerts by enabling users to better control notification alerts. It’s important to note that social media platforms are always changing. Users are especially demanding the ability to customize notifications so they can stay focused without unwanted interruptions.
