Innergex Expands Wind Energy Initiatives with New Projects in British Columbia

Innergex Renewable Energy Inc., a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, has made significant strides in expanding its wind energy portfolio in British Columbia. The company’s digital-first approach combined with over twenty years of experience creates an impressive track record of high-quality assets across Canada, the United States, France and Chile. Innergex continues to shine across the renewable energy sector. The firm has ownership stakes in 89 power plants facilities that cumulatively have an extraordinary combined net installed capacity of 3.3 gigawatts (GW).

Innergex has a truly enviable portfolio, with 42 hydroelectric facilities and 35 wind facilities. Further, the company has nine solar facilities and three battery energy storage facilities in its fleet. The company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions positions it as a key contributor to the ongoing transition to renewable sources.

Currently, Innergex is developing three major wind projects in British Columbia: the Stewart Creek wind project, the K2 wind project, and the Nithi Mountain wind project. The Stewart Creek project has a 200 megawatt (MW) nameplate capacity. It’s located in the Peace Region of Northeastern British Columbia. Innergex has a 49% equity interest in this project, with West Moberly First Nations holding the other 51%.

Later, equally, the K2 wind project — which will help produce 160 MW of electricity — is located within the heart of British Columbia’s central interior. Just as with the Martin Falls project, Innergex here only has a 49% equity stake, with the Westbank First Nation as partners at 51%. The Nithi Mountain wind project will contribute a further 200 MW of capacity. It’s located in the Bulkley-Nechako region of Northern British Columbia. In this project, Stellat’en First Nation owns 51% and Innergex owns 49%.

These successful projects are manifestations of Innergex’s strong commitment to pursue the co-development of renewable energy initiatives with Indigenous partners, with the collaboration creating value for everyone involved. Commercial operations for all three projects aren’t scheduled to begin until 2030-31. This award represents a major milestone in Innergex’s U.S. growth strategy.
