DESRI and Ranger Power Launch New Solar Initiatives in Michigan

Diverse Energy Solutions Renewables, Inc. (DESRI) marked the official opening of its 11th solar project, Heartwood, a Michigan facility today. In addition to it, they started their 12th project, White Tail. Today’s announcement represents another significant step forward in DESRI’s continued partnership with Ranger Power, which started back in 2019. These projects are intended to strengthen renewable energy development across the state, creating jobs and increasing local economic activity.

The Heartwood solar facility will produce a mighty 150 megawatts (MW) of energy. It is scheduled to begin commercial service in 2026. During its peak construction period, it’s slated to put 300-plus people to work. Heartwood ultimately was able to lock down a multi-decade PPA with Consumers Energy. This agreement ensures there will be continuous, consistent demand for the energy they’re making.

At the same time, the White Tail project will contribute another 140 MW of renewable energy to Michigan’s renewable energy mix. So far, this community initiative has achieved Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with the Lansing Board of Water and Light. It has collaborated with the Michigan Public Power Agency (MPPA). White Tail will open by the end of 2025. This move will make a great leap in allowing the state to produce energy where it’s used.

Thomas de Swardt, the chief commercial officer of DESRI, emphasized the importance of these projects:

“Heartwood and White Tail mark DESRI’s 11th and 12th projects in Michigan, where we have been building since 2019 through our partnership with Ranger Power.”

The partnership between DESRI and Ranger Power is expected to bring tremendous economic benefits to the region. According to Paul Harris, co-founder and president of Ranger Power:

“These projects, which will provide in excess of $62 million in property tax payments throughout their lives, will generate low-cost, reliable and domestic energy supporting farming and economic development throughout the region.”

Complementing the Michigan initiatives, DESRI is in active construction on the Carne solar and storage project in Deming, New Mexico. This project is a testament to their commitment to renewable energy innovation. This project, produced in partnership with El Paso Electric, started construction in August 2024. It has an impressive nameplate capacity of 130 megawatts alternating current (MWac).

These initiatives are just a few examples of DESRI’s commitment to building sustainable renewable energy infrastructure and supporting local economic development. With demand for their services increasing statewide in Michigan and nationally, the organization’s growth is accelerating. It remains dedicated to delivering sustainable energy solutions that drive economic prosperity in communities.

“As neighbours, we will continue to look for ways to support the communities our projects call home. We have and will continue to invest in local causes like our contributions to the Hillsdale Community Foundation and partnership to secure an additional $732,950 for Augusta and York townships through Michigan’s Renewable Ready Communities Fund.”

These initiatives reflect DESRI’s dedication to expanding renewable energy infrastructure while fostering local development. As the organization continues its growth trajectory in Michigan and beyond, it remains focused on delivering sustainable energy solutions that benefit local economies.
