Deel, a prominent figure in the HR technology industry with a valuation exceeding $12 billion, is facing serious allegations from its competitor, Rippling. The accusations involve claims of espionage, trade secret misappropriation, and other unlawful activities. Rippling's legal complaint alleges that Deel engaged in a covert operation to spy on them through an employee known as D.S. The accusations describe D.S. as a spy for Deel, who allegedly accessed Rippling's confidential sales and marketing strategies under the guise of his payroll operations role. “The channels D.S. previewed during this period have no connection to his payroll operations job responsibilities,” Rippling's complaint stated.

“What they do relate to, however, are all aspects of Rippling’s business development, sales, and customer retention strategies—the most sensitive of the Company’s Sales and Marketing Trade Secrets and confidential business information—with a particular emphasis on a single competitor, Deel,” according to Rippling's complaint.
The complaint further alleges that D.S. had accessed channels related to competitive intelligence about Deel more than 450 times since November 2024. This activity raised suspicions about his intentions and loyalty.

In addition to espionage accusations, Deel is also facing charges of tortious interference, unfair competition, and aiding and abetting a breach of fiduciary duty. The allegations suggest that Deel's executives engaged in a racketeering scheme aimed at undermining Rippling's business operations.
